HERMES RENT A CAR TERMSAND CONDITIONS
Minimum rental period
The minimum rental period is one day 24 hours.
Age of the driver
For A, A1 and B1 the minimum rental age is 21 years. For all other categories the minimum rental category is 23 years. The maximum rental age is 75 years. All drivers must hold their license for at least one year.
Driving License
Drivers must hold a valid driver’s license issued in the European Union or Switzerland, Serbia, Albania, United States of America, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Africa, South Korea and the countries of the former Soviet Union. Drivers from outside the European Union require an international driver’s license. All drivers must hold their driving license for at least one year.
Extra Driver
We charge 3 euros per day for each additional driver.
Terms of Payment
Full payment must be made upon delivery of the vehicle either by cash, Visa, Maestro or Master card.
Vehicle usage
Regular cars (except jeeps) are only allowed on paved roads. If you take a regular car off road you will be responsible for repairing any damage found to the chassis, wheels and tires of the vehicle, plus the cost of replacing the cabin and air filter. Cleaning charges will also apply.
Delivery of the vehicle
It is the hirer’s responsibility to check the condition of the vehicle and ensure that any existing damage is recorded on the hire agreement upon delivery of the vehicle. Any damage that is not recorded in the rental agreement and found upon the return of the vehicle will become the responsibility of the renter.
Return of the vehicle
Unless otherwise specified in the rental agreement the vehicle must be returned to the same rental office, at the agreed time (late returns will be charged a full day’s rental), from which it was collected. If you wish to return the car to a different office/location, please let us know as soon as possible as an additional charge may apply. If the vehicle is returned with a very dirty interior, there will be a charge of 15 euros for cleaning
Early return of the vehicle
Your rental period begins and ends according to the pick-up and return dates and times stated in the rental agreement. Prices are confirmed at the time of booking and are calculated on a 24 hour basis. There are no refunds for vehicles picked up late or returned early.
Vehicle breakdown
In case of breakdown or technical problem please call the support line. We will send a mechanic to assess the problem, if they can’t fix it at that time we will replace the car. If the breakdown / technical problem has been caused by misuse or non-observance of any of our conditions we have the right to take possession of the vehicle and terminate the rental agreement without replacement or refund.
Opening hours / returns
Our opening hours are:
Airport Monday – Sunday 08:00 – 21:00
Thassos head offices: Monday – Sunday 08:30 – 13:00 and 17:00 – 21:00
Services after opening hours are subject to a charge of 20 euros.
Fuel
The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level given with the vehicle. This is recorded in the lease agreement. There is no refund for extra fuel.
Car categories
Each car class consists of different car models with similar features. We do not guarantee that you will receive the exact make, model or color that you may have requested, we do guarantee that you will get a car in the class you have reserved or a higher class if there is no availability of the class you have chosen.
Cancellation of reservation
We offer free cancellation on all bookings. Please inform us as soon as possible of any changes to your booking.
Violations of the law
All penalties and fines incurred during the rental period are the responsibility of the renter.
Ferry boat trips
We allow our vehicles to travel by ferry boat to/from the island of Thassos. Ferry boat trips to other islands are only permitted with written permission from hermes rent a car.
Pets
With our permit you can transport your pets. However, they must be housed in a suitable travel pet carrier at all times. Any evidence of animal hair, feathers or stains will incur a €40 cleaning fee.
Smoking
Smoking is strictly prohibited in cars. Proof of smoking in the car will result in an 80 euro cleaning/smoking fee.
Distance in miles
Mileage limits apply for short term rentals. If applicable, you will be informed at the conclusion of the booking/rental agreement.
Keys
Keys and fobs are not covered by any of our insurance products. The cost of replacement/repair will be large from the tenant. We charge for the retrieval of any keys locked inside the vehicle.
Cross-border rentals
Cross-border rentals are strictly prohibited.
Infant/child seats
Daily charge of 3 euros per child seat, up to a maximum of 24 euros. Booster seats/pillows are provided free of charge.
In the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle
- Inform hermes rent a car immediately.
- Do not admit responsibility under any circumstances.
- Report the accident to the police and file an accident report.
- Collect the names, addresses and telephone numbers of all parties involved and any witnesses.
- Do not move the car from the scene of the accident. you only do so at the request of either the police, Hermes rent a car or an agent of our insurers.
free from collision damage
The following insurance coverages are included in the rental prices:
- Death and injury for all third parties and passengers of the rental car from Hermes rent a car up to 1,200,000 euros
- Material damages of third parties up to a maximum of 1,300,000 euros
- Driver personal accident insurance (PAI) provides cover for injury or total disability up to a maximum of €12,000.
- Full fire and theft insurance for the rental car
If you are responsible for an accident or damage to the rental car from Hermes rent a car, the following maximum payment applies

Complete exemption from damages
You can avoid the above extra charges by adding the full damage free insurance option for €9 per day, this price applies to all vehicle categories and also covers wheels, tyres, chassis and glass.
Exemption from insurance coverage
All insurances are void and the renter is responsible for full payment of all damages, including third party damages, if any of the following apply
- You are under the influence of drugs or alcohol or any substance that may impair your judgment or reactions
- You fail to stop after an accident or fail to report an accident to Hermes rent a car, or the police (tel. +30 100)
- The vehicle is used for illegal purposes, e.g. smuggling, theft, illegal transportation or commercial use.
- Overloaded driving (four seat belts=four passengers)
- The car is driven by someone not named in the rental agreement
- The vehicle is used for racing or any other competition
- The car is driven on unauthorized roads for example unpaved roads or beaches
- You violate any Greek traffic law
Accident management
We charge an administrative fee of 25 euros in the event of an accident, regardless of who is responsible
